LCFC is committed to the development of cooperative education in Louisiana. One of the more successful programs is the 4-H Co-op Public Speaking Program in which students develop skills in preparing and presenting speeches. LCFC contributes annually to the sponsorships of the State FFA Star in Agribusiness Award Program. LCFC also sponsors a Co-op Essay Contest for FCCLA and provides college scholarships by annually contributing to the Ewell P. Roy Scholarship Fund at LSU.
The Youth Co-op Leadership Conference provides for leadership development and the opportunity to study our economic system and how co-ops fit into this system. Extension agents, agriscience instructors or family and consumer science instructors recommend the FFA, FCCLA and 4-H students who attend. Youth Scholars are sponsored by agricultural cooperative businesses throughout Louisiana.
The commitment of co-op leaders and businesses to get involved and invest their resources in tomorrow’s leaders make this one of the outstanding youth leadership programs in the state.
What they’re saying about the Leadership Conference:
• “We organized a mock co-op and that gave us a general idea of what co-ops are about.”
• “We were able to get involved and not just sit around listening to speeches.”
• “Co-op camp changed my view on co-ops. It was exciting to participate in a conference that you could actually work together as a team and start your own business.”
